Like every game, also this one has its own vocabulary. We gathered a glossary that explains some of the most used terms in the game of Baccarat.

Banco: This Spanish word means the banker. Means the dealer or the player, who is in possession of the shoe. Banco also deals and plays the cards.

Banker: In Baccarat Banker is the one of the two possible bets. This means betting on the banker. Mathematically the bet with the lowest house edge.

Bankroll: The amount of money that the player has available for betting and playing throughout the game.

Burned Card: The card that is removed from the deck after each shuffle and placed in the discard tray before the cards are dealt.

Callman: This word means the dealer or the croupier. This person is responsible for dealing the cards and managing the whole game. The Callman represents the Bank.

Cut: Dividing the deck in two after shuffling the cards.

Cheval: An old variation of Baccarat which allows the player to play with two hands at the same time. This version is sometimes also called “Horse”.

Down card: This expression means the card that is dealt face down.

Hand: The cards dealt to the player and the banker during a Baccarat game.

High Roller: The term High Roller means a player that usually makes large bets.

House Advantage: The house edge or the advantage that the casino has over the players. It is a commission that is collected by the casino at the end of the game. Expressed as percentage which normally doesn’t exceed 5 %.

Natural: This is a term used for a winning hand that has a total value of 8 or 9. A “natural hand” is made up of only two first cards.

Le Grande: This is a French term for a natural hand of 9.

Palette: This means the tool that is used to move the cards on the Baccarat table.

Player: In Baccarat Player is the one of the two possible bets. This means betting on the player. Mathematically the bet with the highest house edge.

Punto: This is a Spanish term for point. In Baccarat it means the point or player that the bet is placed for.

Punto Banco: Punto Banco is a very popular variation of the game of Baccarat.

Shoe: This word points out to a wooden device or a containe that holds the playing cards. From Shoe the dealer deals the cards easily one by one. It is used to hold many decks starting from 1. It can hold up to eight decks.

Stakes: This word means all the wagers made by each player.

Stand: This is the action that the player does when he or she decides to hold the position and state that he or she will no longer draw any additional cards.

Standoff: This word refers to a tie.

Upcard: This expression means the card that is dealt face up.
